“According to the Supreme Court, money is now speech and corporations are now people. But when real people without money assemble to express their dissatisfaction with the political consequences of this, they’re treated as public nuisances and evicted.”—Robert Reich (via sirmitchell)

If you're awake right now, I'd like your help writing a desperate letter to a friend...
I want to reach out to him to help him find the inspiration that he needs to actively seek out ways to grow mentally, emotionally and spiritually. The topics I wish to deal with are as follows:
Acceptance that there are personal issues that need to be tended to
How to maintain awareness of personal issues needing to be dealt with
How to put into action solving the issues at hand
Over coming insecurity / feelings of inadequacy
Obsession with the idea of a need for romantic relationships to feel ‘Happiness’
Inability to break with personally detrimental co-dependencies in romantic relationships
Establishing what personal desires / priorities / interests he has
Figuring out what needs to be done to change his life so that he can focus on personal desires / priorities / interests he has
(ex. Reading self help books, strengthening personal spirituality / emotional status / mentality, researching the issues that he has trouble with and some solutions that have helped others, actively participating / seeking out situations that fulfill his desires / correlate to his priorities / peak his interest)
How to put into action engaging in personal desires / priorities / interests he has
Creating a lifestyle that focuses on priorities
Understanding that relationships (that is, ANY interpersonal connection) are a PART of life, but not the FOCUS of life
Acceptance of the past being the PAST and that he should let it be a lesson for the future, not what he should expect of the present (Essentially, letting go of the past)
I just want him to understand that when you lay down at night, no matter who you lay next to or what substance you have pulsing in your veins, all you have and all that you own is your very own self. No matter what you have in life, if you do not have control of yourself you have nothing. You create your own reality. Life is only 10% what happens to you, 90% how you react and whether you believe you can or cannot do something, you are right. (If you think you can’t, you won’t. If you believe you can, you will strive to become the person you need to be in order to achieve it.) It’s important to maintain yourself and take care of your own mentality, spirituality, emotions and physical being or else you will be left with nothing to call your own.
You create your own reality…
What the fuck can I say? I need your help / experiences, people… Links to self help sites, books that assist with spiritual or personal growth… Help me out here…
Message me here or at M.M.Giorgi@hotmail.com
I’d really appreciate it… It’s very important to me because he’s a very important friend.

Studies from more than 10 years ago are generally out, so that takes care of about half the sources on that page alone. Next up are pro-life or Catholic research institutes. No bias in science, kids! That eliminates the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute (founded by anti-choice activist Joel Brind), the National Catholic Bioethics Center, MaterCare International (MCI), and the National Physicians Center for Family Resources.
That Pike study (PDF) so often cited as support for the abortion-breast cancer link? The one that’s over 30 years old? -was a study about oral contraceptives and breast cancer. Not abortion. Abortion is barely mentioned in the entire study. It’s a self-reporting study of 163 white women, 24 of whom had had an abortion. That is not a good sample size or methodology. The study itself even found that an abortion after the first full-term pregnancy didn’t increase the risk of breast cancer, so….?
This page goes on to say essentially that we need to have as many babies as possible as soon as possible, or else we’ll get breast cancer. But we have to be married, first. Before 18, preferably. Babies or boobies, guys. Your choice.

Mathew Stiffel ”First, we know that shepherds were in the fields watching their flocks at the time of Jesus’ birth (Luke:2:7-8). Shepherds were not in the fields during December. According to Celebrations: The Complete Book of American Holidays, Luke’s account “suggests that Jesus may have been born in summer or early fall. Since December is cold and rainy in Judea, it is likely the shepherds would have sought shelter for their flocks at night” (p. 309). Similarly, The Interpreter’s One-Volume Commentary says this passage argues “against the birth [of Christ] occurring on Dec. 25 since the weather would not have permitted” shepherds watching over their flocks in the fields at night. Second, Jesus’ parents came to Bethlehem to register in a Roman census (Luke:2:1-4). Such censuses were not taken in winter, when temperatures often dropped below freezing and roads were in poor condition. Taking a census under such conditions would have been self-defeating. Given the difficulties and the desire to bring pagans into Christianity, “the important fact then which I have asked you to get clearly into your head is that the fixing of the date as December 25th was a compromise with paganism” (William Walsh, The Story of Santa Klaus, 1970, p. 62).”

Courtney Rodrigue yep christmas isnt just about giving presents its about the gifts god gave us that chirstmas day so long ago.

Mathew Stiffel No, no it’s not. It’s about giving presents (because Saturnalia involved gift-giving) and being with family and friends (Saturnalia had the Romans meeting down on the banks of the Tiber).
Don’t believe everything you’re told in Church. Do some research for yourself.

Mathew Stiffel I’m not saying that you can’t be proud of Jesus as a gift from god or whatever, but Jesus was NOT born in December. I’m not bashing your religion; I’m just trying to get you to realise that “Merry Christmas” doesn’t make sense for this time of year.

Mathew Stiffel Oh my god. We also believed that the sun revolved around the Earth for a long time, but when we received new information about it, we changed our views.
You’re dangerously faithful, and not in a good way.
Mathew Stiffel And you can be faithful about them and still agree that Christmas is not the time when Jesus was born. That doesn’t threaten or take anything away from Jesus, it’s just admitting that the holiday of “Christmas” was a transformation of Saturnalia in order to more easily convert the locals.
Blind faith just for the sake of it is wrong, and it’s something Jesus definitely wouldn’t have liked.

And when I finally got to work today, I ate my Subway sandwich, and I drank my Coca-Cola Classic, and then I ate my Sunchips and I thought about the weekend when I’d fill up my Ford van with Mobil brand gas and drive to the Clear Channel venue and I’d drink myself a Budweiser and play my Fender guitar through my Fender amplifier and tell the kids with a straight face through a Shure microphone and JBL speakers
